Module 7- Analyzing Artwork

Image
The first artwork is the Marilyn Monroe painting by Andy Warhol. The original piece was first created in August 1962, shortly after Marilyn’s death. He used a photograph from her film “Niagara” in 1952, which he then cropped to bring her features into greater focus. The Marilyn Monroe series he created in 1967 shows a very bright and bold image. He uses many colors to define the piece. The palette includes a bright yellow, acid green, hot pink, and many more. In many of the portraits, Warhol uses the bright yellow variant to emphasize her platinum blonde hair. One portrait in particular, he uses that same bright yellow on the hair, but on top of a hot pink background. Warhol defines the shadows on her face and body with a black color, while again using the hot pink for her eyeshadow and an orchid-like outline around her lips. This portrait speaks volumes to me due to the different splash of colors and variants used, and how well they all blend and complem...
